| John Michael Cooper's photography is different and that's exactly what I like about him and his style. His use of lighting brings out the contrast and values in each of his photos. In photo 1 his color pallet is my favorite out of the 3. I love how only the female is messy while the male is clean and sharp. it makes me wonder what happened previous to the photo and if he's (Cooper) trying to tell a story. The photo has great composition from balance within the colors and rule of thirds to the emphasis on the models. In the second photo, I love how much movement is going on. My eye starts at the bottom here the waves are up towards the ruffles in her dress and then I notice the stains and how wet her hair is and even the little glimmer of dampness on her arms. In this photo, I can smell and feel the wind and coldness of the water. I absolutely love how she's in the rule of thirds and looking off into the distance which happens to be the opposite side of where she's placed. This photograph is balanced perfectly with emphasis on the light and dark values and contrasting colors within. Lastly, the third photo. This one is breathtaking and powerful all at the same time. I absolutely love the values within her dress and how it gives it some texture. I can almost feel the dress right now while looking at it. The smoke in the background adds balance and ties in within the lights of her dress while the solid black background brings out the dark values within both her dress and the shadows underneath it. Overall, I love Cooper's work and his photos have only inspired me greatly for this project. |
